A Single-Minded Focus
Galatians 5:7 (NIV®)
You were running a good race. Who cut in on you and kept you from obeying the truth?
One of the difficulties we all face as we are growing up in the Lord is keeping a single-minded focus. I’ve read that the more options we have, the less likely we are to do something significant, because when things get tough we just move on to the next option. We have so many church options that we have the luxury of arguing among ourselves about music and which translation of the Bible to read, and moving on when something doesn’t suit us. This verse reminds us that our faith-life needs the purposeful determination of a runner in a race in order to maintain a forward momentum and accomplish the purposes that God has for us. Let’s minimize the distractions and keep our eyes on the goal!
Heavenly Father, I want to keep my eyes on You. Help me to run a good race toward eternity and ignore all the things that would distract me from that goal—people, circumstances, emotions, false promises of the world, the busyness of daily life. In all things I give You the glory and honor. In Jesus’ name, amen.
