INVITATION TO REST

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

You might think Jesus would be looking for people with spotless track records and unfailing faith to be a part of His Kingdom, but those are not the individuals to whom this invitation is extended. He says, “If you are weary and burdened, come with me.” And then there is a promise: “I’ll give you rest.” Notice that He didn’t say, “I’ll give you criticism,” or “I’ll show you what you’ve been doing wrong.” He said, “Here is a shelter from the storm. I will provide rest for you.” What a remarkable invitation. Those of us who are weary and burdened are not disqualified from membership in His Kingdom. None of us are second-class citizens. Whether you are new to faith or have been a believer for many years, if you are weary or burdened, walk toward Jesus. He is “gentle and humble” and wants to help carry your load.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You that we can come to You. Thank You for this promise of rest and renewal for my soul. I’m here, Lord, seeking Your way and the rest that only You can provide. In Jesus’ name, amen.
