The Lion

Revelation 1:14-16 (NIV®)

His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire. His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters. In his right hand he held seven stars, and out of his mouth came a sharp double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance.

When we say we believe that Jesus Christ ascended into Heaven, it’s a declaration of His position. He picked up the glory and the honor and the majesty that He laid aside when He came to the earth. I imagine that the limits of human language don’t allow John to fully describe Jesus’ magnificence, but he still gives us a marvelous presentation of the victorious Lord. This is the Jesus who is coming back to the earth. He’s not coming back as a Suffering Servant or a Lamb silent before his shearers. When He comes back to the earth, He’s coming as the Lion of the Tribe of Judah—the triumphant King and the Judge of all humanity. Come, Lord Jesus!

This image of Jesus is probably not the first one that comes to mind when you think about Him. But this is the same Jesus who died on the cross so that you could enter God’s Kingdom. And this is the Jesus who will conquer Satan and banish him from our lives forever.

Heavenly Father, I love You, and I want to please You in all I do, in all I am, and all I will ever be. I look at who You are and feel so unworthy. Today I choose You. I choose to turn from the spirit of the world and embrace Your purposes. Embolden me to be a powerful advocate for the Kingdom of God. Come quickly, Lord Jesus! Amen.
