He Knows Me Well
John 20:19 (NIV®)
On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!”
The disciples were in hiding. It had been three days since they had watched the most remarkable man they’d ever met be crucified. They had seen Jesus walk on water and raise the dead. They thought He was invincible, but then the unthinkable happened. They knew they were probably next, so they hid. Jesus had been telling them that He would be crucified but raised to life again three days later. What would you expect the disciples to be doing on day three? I hope I’d be tailgating outside the tomb! But their fear at that point was more real than anything Jesus had said to them. When His words were fulfilled and He was raised back to life, where did He go? Looking for His friends! He could have been mad at them. They had abandoned Him and denied Him, after all. He could have walked into that room and sent them packing and started over with twelve more. But Jesus went to where they were and said, “Peace be with you!” He knew their fears and weaknesses, but He also loved them and understood their needs.
THINK ABOUT IT
God knows what we need, even better than we know it ourselves. Is that settled in your heart? Does your life reflect that reality?
Heavenly Father, You know me better than I know myself. You know what will cause me fear before I even know it’s coming. Thank You for a Savior who has provided for my weakest moments ahead of time. When trials come, help me to turn to Him with confidence to forgive, heal, and restore me.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
