On Assignment in the Field

2 Corinthians 5:20 (NIV®)

We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us.

We are Christ’s ambassadors, representatives on His behalf. We have been deployed to be advocates for Him, helping people understand His perspective and His purposes. In whatever spheres of influence God has given you―your family, your workplace, your classroom, your friends, your neighborhood―you are an ambassador. That means every time you hear someone say, “Why would God . . .?” or “I don’t understand Christians,” God is inviting you to stand up for Him. We often think it would be good if our community and our nation were more Christ-centered, and we pray that God would raise up someone to make an appeal on His behalf. The truth is that He already has. And it is us.

Do you willingly accept your role as Christ’s ambassador? It can be an intimidating assignment, but the Holy Spirit has promised to empower you with everything you need to represent Him well.

Heavenly Father, prepare me to respond to You as if I truly believed You were making Your appeal through my life. Let me be transformed by Your Holy Spirit so that others who watch and see me know that I am a representative for You. Teach me what needs to change in my life in order to be more Christ-centered instead of me-centered. Show me ways I can serve those around me. Thank You for the people You have placed in my life to teach me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
