With All of You

Mark 12:28-30 (NIV®)

One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’”

If contemporary American Christians were asked this question, many people would answer, “Love God with all of your mind.” We think discipleship is about intellect and learning. Get the facts right, study a little more, read a little more, learn a little more. But that’s not all of what Jesus said. He said to love God with your heart, your soul, your mind, and your strength. You should worship God physically as much as you worship Him intellectually and emotionally. It requires your entire person. The totality of how you live your life is an expression of your worship to God. It’s a remarkable notion.

Heavenly Father, I want to worship You with everything I have. Show me how to love You in all the areas of my life. Strengthen me in mind and spirit and body so that I will bring You glory in everything I think and say and do. In Jesus’ name, amen.
