Cling to your refuge
Linda Buxa

On Christmas Day 2004, supermodel Petra Nemcova was in Thailand when a tsunami hit.
Dragged under the water, she thought she was going to die. Somehow she popped up and grabbed onto a palm tree. As the water raged around her, she heard the screams of people who were being swept away by the ocean. In all about 230,000 people died that day.

Even though her pelvis was shattered and she was going in and out of consciousness, Petra clung to that tree for eight hours, waiting for a rescue. It finally came. Today she uses her experience to reach out to others, running a foundation that builds schools in areas hit by natural disasters.
You may not have experienced a literal tsunami, but you know a figurative one, don’t you? Your marriage is falling apart. Your baby died. You lost your home to a fire. Your teen became addicted to heroin. Your mother died tragically in a car accident.

As troubles swirl around you, you cling to your God for however long it takes because you know he is your refuge. Then you use your experience to tell others to hang in there because their faithful Rescuer is coming. “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves received from God” (2 Corinthians 1:3,4).

Draw the line at those “little” deadly sins!

Borderline is a warmly conversational, yet thought-provoking new book that will inspire you and perhaps even reset your views on the borderline issues. And it’ll remind you all over again of the power of God’s unconditional love and grace to help guide you through.
