Profits or People Tension

Former CEO of Rochester Drug Cooperative, Laurence Doud, was recently charged with criminal charges related to drug trafficking opioids. This test case will be a wake-up call for executives that distribute any type of addictive pharmaceuticals.

Rochester Drug is a middleman that distributes drugs to pharmacies. Distributors typically serve their customers well by providing whatever legal products the customer requests.

If this test case holds up, CEOs will become responsible for being a moral conscience of sorts for their customers, telling customers, “No” when they exceed reasonable limits.

Proverbs 15:27 teaches, “He who profits illicitly troubles his own house...”

As followers of Christ we should place people over profits, but it can be difficult to determine where to draw the line. Consider carefully your responsibility to your community versus your shareholders.
