Your Jesus Story - Today with Allen Jackson - November 12, 2019

Acts 1:1

In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach.

When Luke sat down to write the gospel that bears his name and the book of Acts, he probably wasn’t writing for a twenty-first-century audience. He wasn’t looking across the span of time and thinking, “What will those people need?” He had personally witnessed much of Jesus’ ministry, or was a friend of those who had. He was a frequent traveling companion of the Apostle Paul, so he had firsthand knowledge of the unfolding narrative of the birth of the Church. His desire was to record the Jesus-story in the context that he knew, for his generation, so that people who hadn’t had those personal experiences would understand what had happened. He had no idea that his account would impact the world as it has. Like Luke, we have been placed in a specific place at a specific time to tell others about the ways we have experienced God at work in our lives or seen Him at work the lives of others. It’s a great privilege to tell our Jesus-stories, and only God knows how He will use them to build His Kingdom.

Heavenly Father, thank You that Your work in the earth did not end in the first century but continues on through every believer until the day of Jesus’ return. Thank You for the privilege of sharing my Jesus-story. Give me boldness to tell about the ways You are at work in my life, so that many will seek and know You as Savior. In Jesus’ name, amen.
