No Guilt, No Shame
1 Corinthians 6:11 (NIV®)
That is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
I encounter many people who are living with the burden of unrelenting shame. It is an awful, enslaving thing. It says, “You didn’t just make a mistake, you are a mistake. You are wrong, and you will always be wrong. You are a failure, and that will never change.” First Corinthians 6 reminds us to think back to what we were when God called us and realize the changes He has brought to our lives. Yes, “that is what some of you were,” but He has washed you, sanctified you, justified you, and delivered you from any guilt and the shame that resulted from it. God is more than able to deliver us from the shame of our stories, so let’s trust Him to do that. Let’s live in the freedom that Jesus purchased for us on the cross.
THINK ABOUT IT
God did not choose us in ignorance. He chose us in full knowledge of our history. If there is anything in your past that is weighing you down with shame, release it to the Lord and live in the freedom He provides.
Heavenly Father, may the purposes of Almighty God break into my awareness. Let the Word of God come alive in me as never before. Let the power of God be made evident in my life to convict, heal, restore, and deliver. My hope is in You, my God and my Redeemer. In Jesus’ name, amen.
