Image of the Father
Matthew 6:9 (NIV®)
“This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.’”
The tone of our relationship with God is set very specifically with a word—He is our Father! When the disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray, He taught them a prayer that has endured through the ages. He said to address God as “Our Father in heaven.” It’s a very significant understanding because God identifies with humanity in a very unique way. God is the template—the pattern―and we are created in His image. There’s a spiritual genetic code that connects us to God and separates us from the rest of the created beings on the planet. He is our Father, and He doesn’t relate to us as creatures; He relates to us as His children.
THINK ABOUT IT
We are not simply the highest rung on the evolutionary ladder; God created us in His image. What does it mean to you to be created in the image of God?
Heavenly Father, even my earthly father taught me what was right and what was wrong in his eyes. You are my Heavenly Father who created all things and all people for Your purposes. You are holy and righteous in all Your ways. Deliver me from all the plans of the evil one. May You be glorified through my life. In Jesus’ name, amen.
