Matthew 1:18-21 (NIV®)
This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”
The redemptive purposes of God were delivered to us through a family. God certainly didn’t need a family to care for Jesus. He could have done it another way. If God could feed the Israelites in the desert and bring water from a rock He could have cared for an infant. He put Jesus in a family as a way of validating the system He put in place in Genesis 1-2, a system He wants us to abide by today.
Thank you, Heavenly Father, for showing us so clearly the importance of family. Thank you that Mary and Joseph were willing to believe the impossible and fulfill the purposes You had for them. Thank You for being our Father and showing us love beyond measure. Thank You for sending Your Son to us as the ultimate gift of love. In His name I pray, amen.
