Today's One Year Bible Reading

In five short days, we'll head into Deuteronomy. This is one of my (many) favorite books of the OT. Can you believe you've almost made it through the Torah? A feat few souls have dared to tread. Great job! Reading today's entry in Numbers, I was amazed at how much more meaningful it has become since last year when I read through it. It practically makes sense now!

Recap: Feast means "appointed time," not smorgasbord

Spring Feasts (all fulfilled by Jesus, perfectly times in the springs season of His death):

  • Passover (Nisan 14 April-ish-on the mid-cycle of the moon, Jesus crucified)

  • Feast of Unleavened Bread (day after Passover begins a 7-day Feast)

  • Feast of Harvest or Firstfruits (begins first day after the next weekly Sabbath, 7 days long, Jesus resurrected His first fruits from the grave)

  • Feast of Pentecost (not mentioned here, 50 days after Feast of Harvest, 7 days long, Jesus sent His Spirit to the disciples in Acts)

Fall Feasts (none yet fulfilled):

  • Feast of Trumpets (first day of Tishri, mid-September on the new moon, one day long, perhaps the anticipated "rapture")

  • Day of Atonement (10th of Tishri, day of total rest, fasting and repentance, not sure what this corresponds to, perhaps a time of judgment for Israel at the beginning of the Millennial Kingdom for their unbelief?)

  • Feast of Tabernacles/Shelters (15th of Tishri, 7 days long, a great time of rejoicing when Christ comes to tabernacle (dwell) with His people for 1,000 years, reigning from Jerusalem)

This is actually Mary's lineage (Matthew contains Joseph's. Apparently, in that culture the lineage was always listed by the husband's name, even it if belonged to the wife-not sure why). Both Mary and Joseph were of the line of David, even though Joseph is not technically the father. This is why all those genealogies are important!

Psalm 62

Enjoy these verses with literal translation (salvation in Hebrew is Yeshua):

My soul waits in silence for God only;

From Him is my YESHUA.

He only is my rock and my YESHUA,

My stronghold; I shall not be greatly shaken.

My soul, wait in silence for God only,

For my hope is from Him.

He only is my rock and my YESHUA,

My stronghold; I shall not be shaken.

On God my YESHUA and my glory rest;

The rock of my strength, my refuge is in God.

  • Do you remember how many annual Feasts every nation will be required to attend by sending a representative during the Millennial Kingdom, lest their country come under a curse?
